Policeman killed, Local Government Chairman escaped death in gunmen attack

Mr Shiban Tikari, Chairman of Takum Local Government Council of Taraba State, on Saturday morning, escaped death by a slim margin when armed militia opened fire on his convoy.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the incident happened at Dogo-Gawa village of Takum in Taraba State.

The attack by the armed men however, led to the death of a Police orderly in the.

Speaking with newsmen, Tikari said that the armed bandits had attacked his convoy, on his way to Takum.

He said that the bandits we’re more than 10, and were armed with sophisticated weapons. He also appealed to Taraba State Government to deploy more Police personnel in the area.

In another development, Police officers attached to Taraba State Police Command, have reportedly thwarted plans by armed bandits to kidnap some people in Choku village.

The Police it was gathered shot at the kidnappers in an attempt to disperse them.

Confirming the attack, the Council Chairman of Choku village, Daniel Adi said that the bandits had arrived the village around 3am.

He said, “At about 3 a.m. while the Police were on their duty post, unknown gunmen came around and started shooting sporadically. It was just by the grace of God and the experience of the police that made it impossible for the bandits to succeed.”

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relation Officer of Taraba State Police Command, DSP David Misal, when contacted said that he wasn’t aware of the incident, he however promised to call other Police formations in the council area of Choku to get full details of the incident.
