Africa: Covid-19 Death Toll Exceeds 130,000 Across Continent

Africa: Africa Urgently Needs 20 million Second Doses of Covid-19 Vaccine


Cape Town — As of June 1, confirmed cases of Covid-19 from 55 African countries reached 4,840,460 while over 23,109,877 vaccinations have been administered across the continent.

Reported deaths in Africa reached 130,636 and 4,336,274 people have recovered. South Africa has the most reported cases – 1,665,617 – and 56,506 people died. Other most-affected countries are Morocco (519,216), Tunisia (345,474), Ethiopia (271,541), Egypt (262,650), Libya (185,776) and Kenya (170,735).

The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well as national and regional public health departments.
